Antoine Rodet purchased his first vineyards in 1887, just as phylloxera was ruining Burgundy and nearly destroying all its vines. Despite the conditions, Antoine foresaw the success of the Côte Chalonnaise and did not hesitate to invest in the vineyard. He believed in the revival of one of the oldest and largely-renowned terroirs of Burgundy. Due to the timing, however, it took several years for the estate to overcome the phylloxera and begin fulfilling Antoine’s vision.
Having been awarded the Grand Silver Medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900, Antonin Rodet, Antoine’s son, utilised the publicity to help enhance its reputation and that of the wines of Mercurey far beyond the Burgundy region.
Although the Rodet family is no longer involved in winemaking, the spirit of Antonin and his father lives on today through their legacy as fierce defenders of the vineyard of Southern Burgundy to which they dedicated their lives.
Today, in the heart of the village, the Clos Antonin Rodet is an island of greenery and elegance that encapsulates the Southern Burgundy way of life. This imposing 17th-century building has a typical Burgundian roof of glazed tiles.
Anne-Laure Hernette, who has been in charge of the vinification of Antonin Rodet wines since Spring 2013, carefully monitors the production of all wines. Her involvement from the vineyard to bottling ensures high-quality wines that have built the house‘s reputation.
Antonin Rodet wines combine finesse and elegance and highlight the natural characteristics of each wine.
