Cavalier Bartolomeo was Bartolomeo Borgogno, born in 1899 and awarded with the honor of “Cavaliere” (knight) because of his service during War World I.
The estate was founded in 1924 by Grandfather Bartolomeo, who learned to groom grapes from the family vineyards thanks to his father. Three generations later, most of the vines have been replanted, except for those belonging to the Nebbiolo for Barolo. Those are still around.
Today, the winery Cavalier Bartolomeo is run by Dario Borgogno alongside his wife Marriaje, and their son Alex.
The estate is situated in the heart of the Barolo area, in the small hamlet of Garbelletto, beneath the town of Castiglione Falletto. This winery is the definition of ‘garagiste’. A small cellar run by father & son. The cellar recently saw an addition of new barriques to their old big barrels. The winery currently produces a total of only 15,000 bottles per year.
