Vacqueyras is a French AOC in the southern Rhône wine region created in 1990. It is predominantly focused on red wine (97%). Vacqueyras is, like Gigondas, known for its concentrated, robust wines. The backbone of the wine is Grenache, but producers of Vacqueyras usually blends it to lighten the wine’s strength.
The estate of Château des Roques in Vacqueyras is an exceptional place. Consisting of a hamlet of sixteenth-century dry stone, and a nineteenth-century castle, it is surrounded by 38 hectares of vineyards.
It is in this idyllic setting that the story of a passion passed down from generations was born. Today, the family operation has expanded to grow seven different types of grapes.
The vineyard philosophy is to respect nature as much as possible, and they therefore use only natural fertilizers and manual harvesting, with the utmost respect of tradition. The ageing cellar is an old cave with a natural spring, which allows ideal conditions for both winemaking and ageing.
