Domaine de la Pinardière, owned by the Olivier family, spans 40 hectares across Vallet, the heart of the Sèvre-et-Maine appellation of Muscadet. Of the four Muscadet appellations, Sèvre-et-Maine is the largest by volume and produces the greatest quantity of wine.
The appellation is unique due to its hydrological makeup; it is marked by two rivers, the Sevre and the Maine, which have resulted in rich deposits of alluvial soil over thousands of years. The terroir also contains volcanic soil, which provides ample calcium, potassium, and magnesium to vines grown there, yielding abundant harvests.
Christophe Olivier, of the fourth generation of Domaine de la Pinardière, manages the operation today.
