Back in 2013, Alberto Gandolfi and his wife, Alida, came to a decision to sell the family textile company in northern Italy. Venturing around in search of a balanced relationship with nature, they fell in love with Marche.
Alida and Alberto then came across a ruined farmhouse, with 17 hectares of mostly neglected vineyards with up to fifty-year-old Verdicchio vines. They decide to rebuild the country house and look after the land and vineyards.
Husband and wife decided to share their tasks. Alberto would take care of the wine production and Alida would create a beautiful resort and Spa to welcome the guests.
Alberto has decided to go organic since the first day. All the practices are done according to European regulations.
The next step (becoming biodynamic) is already in place with the hiring of Luca D’Attoma, highly estimated enologist, very much keen toward organic and biodynamic viticulture.
In his own words: “Organic farming has precise rules, such as the use of natural anti-parasitic treatments and organic fertilizers, respecting the territory, with the planting of vines suitable for the area. From here, the transition to considering biodynamic agriculture was natural: a technique in which the main premises are total awareness and respect for the rhythms of nature.”
The soil in the Castelli di Jesi region is primarily calcareous clay, with some sand, fossils, and minerals. The soil’s composition, along with the region’s climate and proximity to the Adriatic Sea, contribute to the production of dry white wines, with a mineral character and gives to Lacrima the freshness of its bouquet.
