During the 1870’s Johann and Maria Lange settled in Lodi and began a family farm growing non-irrigated watermelons with their son, Albert. The farm grew year over year and by 1916 they had their family’s first grape-ranch.
By 1982 the fifth generation was here! Between families they have five kids: Marissa, Aaron, Philip, Kendra and Joe.
As the kids grew up on the River Ranch they developed an appreciation for winegrowing by working summers and harvest with Johann and Maria. After college they each decided to come back to the family farm, so they took the next step and built a winery in 2006.
Today Lange’s kids all have unique responsibilities within the winery and viticulture teams, continuing agricultural roots and growing winery and wine brands.
Although the home is located in Acampo, just outside the town of Lodi, their farming extends across four counties in Northern California: San Joaquin, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo. While each county demonstrates unique winegrowing characteristics, three distinct regions emerge.
