The Losi family has been taking care of vineyards in Chianti since 1870, and finally became owner of vineyards which belonged to monastery of Pontignano in 1954.
While most of Italy’s countryside inhabitants were moving to cities, Tranquillo Losi, founder of the estate, decided to focus on producing high quality traditional wine and then handed down his philosophy to his sons. He also had the chance to collaborate with famous wine makers (Biondi Santi), from whom he learned innovative techniques for that time to produce fine wines.
In 1963, the Losi joined the Consorzio del Chianti Classico, producing Gallo Nero wines. The family produces traditionally fine red wines based on Sangiovese, the main grape variety of the Chianti Classico.
In recent years, the vineyards have been largely replanted with selected Sangiovese clones of the finest quality, producing a vineyard with more vines per hectare and low-yielding shoots.
In those lands located on the beautiful hills facing the medieval town of Siena, over the generations, the Losi family succeeded at preserving the traditional and authentic wine-making culture of Chianti, involving the fifth generation.
