At the end of 1700, Friar Indellicati, born and raised in Gioia del Colle, writes about planting Primitivo right in the monastery in this area.
It’s in 1826, that the Chiaromonte family starts its farming business. Corn, wheat, vegetables, olives, fruit trees, and of course, wine. Their old cellar is in Acquaviva delle Fonti, few miles away from Gioia del Colle.
Following the example of the nearby monastery, betting on the quality of Primitivo, they widely plant this “generous” grape as well.
In 1998, Nicola Chiaromonte takes the helm of the winery. The focus is on Primitivo with different expressions. A lot of old vines can be found near the older original cellar. The “alberello” vines (bush trained) are typical for Primitivo.
The total area of the estate is about 60 hectares. Cherry orchards, olive trees and vineyards, most of them practicing organic viticulture.
